“She’s Anxious!”    “Don’t touch!”
“Keep away!” “My dog needs space!”
“My dog’s Nervous!”   “PLEASE, call your dog!!”
Are you tired of frantically explaining that your lovely dog needs space?
It’s hard work walking a reactive dog when you’re dodging excitable children, well-meaning adults and curious dogs. Reactive dog parents acquire ninja-like abilities to give their dog even just a little exercise. It’s exhausting! It’s also unfair.
Some dogs may be fearful, others may need space because they’re vulnerable from old age, pregnancy, illness or recovering from an operation. We must accept that not all dogs feel safe enough to greet new people – I’m not a fan of being caressed by strangers either. It’s also natural for dogs to be selective with their friendship circle – do you greet every person in the street or are you selective too? Socialising can be overwhelming when we’re expected to be super-social, the fact is, not every feels OK with that.
As I explained in my recent post, reactive dogs are unable to control their fears and so we do our best to give them the space they need. This is why the Yellow Dog Project was set up to warn others that dogs wearing yellow need space.
So let’s work together!
Those hard-working dog owners deserve to enjoy a walk with their dog without the fear of curious dogs or well-meaning people fast approaching. Not everyone knows about Yellow Dogs yet, so let’s raise awareness and make life easier and safer for everyone.

I’d like to share with you a lovely UK based company that makes big, bright, give-me-space requests in the form of yellow collars, leads, harnesses, bumbags and dog coats. They are My Anxious Dog and they support the initiative of wearing yellow to give a dog space.
My Anxious Dog are offering my readers a wonderful 10% discount off all their products just by mentioning Streetwise Dogs! We want you to enjoy your walks, we hope these products will give your dog the space they both need and deserve.
Don’t forget to share your Yellow Dogs with us on facebook! spread the good word.
