What’s this Puppy Course?

If you’re wondering what our Puppy Course entails, read on:

The Puppy Course is a 7 week group programme covering the foundations to essential skills like;

– loose lead walking

– recall, leave, wait,

/ settle around distractions,

– techniques to manage barking, chewing, jumping up and biting,

– happy handling for vets and groomers,

– confidence with collar/harness/lead,

– body awareness for balance and car travel,

– and more!

The concept of our classes from puppyhood through to adult is to encourage dogs to be smart thinkers and choose to do the behaviours we want, without them feeling pressured. To see the environment and know what’s expected.

That rebellious adolescent phase can become much easier when the dog feels like all these lovely behaviours are their idea.

In puppyhood class there’s a strong emphasis on connecting with their human, creating a responsive adult dog who has the confidence to deal with whatever life throws at them. If there’s a problem, connect with human instead of feeling overwhelmed and making daft decisions.

An adult streetwise dog is one who navigates the ever changing world with confidence and has the skills to manage challenges without constant supervision.

Starting from puppyhood we lay the foundations that can be built upon during the hormone-surging adolescence for a calmer nervous system and an all round smoother stage of life.

I’ve recently moved out of the adolescent phase with my Jack Russell, Hero, and im so glad I put skills in place early cos he is one willful boy! The only thing he lacked was the opportunity to be chill around other dogs being chill. So he gets over excited and thinks everyone wants to play. The reality of living rurally.

I want to provide youngsters with those opportunities to socialise, which is to be exposed to other dogs who are also learning without diving into play. Pups dont need to be taught to play do they, they’re naturally driven to get involved.

Pups do need to learn how to walk nice and listen to human around the fun stuff, especially when they don’t recognise danger. Puppy class when done right is an ideal opportunity for them to do that.

Is there something specific you’re wanting your pup to learn? let us know and we can try build that in!

If you’re keen for your youngster to become resilient and streetwise we have a few places left on the upcoming Puppy Foundations Course starting 18th February in Glasbury.
